Sunday

Hmm....the "neighbours" have either been very sedate of late, or I have been sleeping deeply. Haven't been woken by yelling for ages.
In my last post I did say that it would get windy here. It has been today, with the highest being 40 mph winds. Unfortunately high tide is not in daylight, so I couldn't see the rough waves.
This website is great for seeing exactly what the weather is doing here.

In the past I have blogged about unanswerable questions, here's another one along the same lines. Why do some folks ask you how you are, then take absolutely no notice of your answer? What is the point of asking? If it is how they have been brought up...to ask after a person's health, they were probably also brought up to listen to the answer. Sorry for having a moan about this, but there are two people I encounter every day, who repeatedly ask me "how are you?" then act in a way it is patently obvious they haven't listened to my answer. Next time I don't think I will bother answering.
That's my gripe over.
I caught up earlier on Book Addicts Anonymous, a blog I share with Blue. I'd recently read some books and not blogged about them. So it might look like I have read four books at once, but I haven't.

It's my Dad's birthday next Saturday, and I rang up a company to arrange his present, and was asked if I was over 18, as the present is a meat cleaver. I said, yes definitely, and it was for my Dad anyway. The woman laughed and said, "well, we have to ask". I knew she had to, it just seemed funny being asked.

That's more like it!

Well, we got the strong winds etc, today. Although being honest, the sea wasn't at it's roughest, and the wind only got up to 54mph here, although I believe it was much higher in other places. I went and had a look, took some photos, but as you can see, it still wasn't so rough here.

What storm?

Our weather forecaster's predicted winds of up to 80 mph, through last night and up to around mid-afternoon today. I realise the whole of the British Isles hasn't got off Scot-free, but we seem to have been pretty fortunate here.

During the night the wind got a little playful, and reached 44mph at 5.53am, but a couple of weeks back it reached 58mph here.

I know this time there was the Spring high tide to contend with, and I believe that it was a 10m high, but we just didn't get the wind. In fact at 1pm, when the tide was high, I walked on the prom and took some pictures of the sea, as you can see, it is almost still, but the tide is high on the sea wall, the steps in the picture go down around 20 feet.

Mind you, it has been known for forecasters to be wrong. What a shame they get paid whether they get it right or wrong.

Still, I would have loved to see some wild water.

Wild waves

Today I set myself a goal. Walk to the supermarket on the prom, to buy their reasonably priced fruit and veg.
Perhaps I should have kept to the more sheltered roads, but there are none to get where I was going.
It was high tide, and the waves were being blown over onto the prom. I love it when it's like that. It was also sunny, so there were rainbows right on the sea edge of the prom, where the water sprayed upwards. I tried to take a photo of the waves, but it doesn't look like I caught them. Will have to upload them onto my PC to look at them properly.
They bounce back off the sea wall, at 90 degrees to the angle they hit the wall, and crash into ones coming it, they then create wonderful "pyramids" of water with frothy crests.
I did the shopping and got back home , tired and happy, glad that I'd walked in more ways than one. Thinking back, it must be at least 6 months since I've managed to walk that distance. The market was just a little too far away for me to walk to.
Guess I'll sleep well tonight. And I think I can say that my ankle is beginning to mend.
