This doesn't affect me, due to owning Midori...my beautiful MG ZR, but....I am sure it will hurt many young women in their pockets. The EU court has decided, in their infinite wisdom, that women should not pay less for their car insurance, as it sex descrimination. Last time my insurance was due, and other times in the past...I have checked out "women only" car insurance, and for the older driver, they actually worked out dearer.
One thing I would love to know though, if they are going to be obliged to put premiums up for young women, will they split the difference, and cut young men's car insurance? You know...meet half way? Or will the insurance companies just get rich from bumping the young women's insurance up to the same level as the young men's? Is anyone going to be monitoring this at all? Or will insurance companies be boasting huge profits in the near future?
I feel sorry for my daughter, Sam, and Edwin's girlfriend, Becki, as they will both suffer from this. Although Oliver passed his test shortly after he was 17, he has not had his own car to date, as the insurance is prohibitive for him, plus probably higher premiums because he lives in Manchester.
Is the barmy court going to pass a ruling that people living in rural areas should not have lower premiums than those living in urban areas with higher crime rates? I would say these crazy ideas being bandied around lately would be a good enough reason to opt out of the EU, but..unfortunately..the people who make these decisions are all on high wages, and don't think of the lower wage earners when they accept these summary rulings.
Sorry for going on a bit, but sometimes things catch my eye that incense me.

Insurance again!
This article caught my eye. It doesn't, however, give one very good tip. mind you seeing as the article is littered by insurance adverts, there's a strong possibility that it might be a sponsored article.
My tip is, before your student child goes to university and lives away from home, by all means make sure that they are covered with insurance for the belongings they take with them. However, what it doesn't say is.....before taking out individual insurance for them, check your own household insurance, as many cover for events like this. Mine does, it gives cover for up to £5,000 worth of belongings in circumstances like this. How do I know this? Because Oliver is in student accommodation, and we checked. I do appreciate not all policies will cover, but as a general rule of thumb, check your household insurance, a good household policy might mean slightly higher premiums, but in the long run could save money, as you won't have to take out several smaller policies, covering individual circumstances.

Government dog proposals
The Government have today made a proposal, that all dog owners should have insurance...in case their dog bites someone, and they should have their dogs chipped.
I'm sorry....but all RESPONSIBLE dog owners have probably already had their dogs chipped, and I am not 100% sure, but I think my household insurance covers this.
Just WHO are the government wanting to target?
The dog owners with dangerous or illegal dogs are hardly likely to visit a vet, have their dog chipped, or even have house insurance...so why think they will take out pet insurance?
I would love to know what the author of Politics for Novices thinks of this proposal, as I know he is a responsible dog owner.
To me, it is just a way for insurance companies to make more money from the general public. I seriously hope it doesn't become law, as the persons intended to be caught..will escape...9 times out of 10, and it will end up responsible dog owners footing the bill, and out of pocket through unnecessary insurance policies!

I wonder
After reading this article, I wonder if I was the victim of the mentioned scam. After all, the collision was slow speed and took place on a roundabout, and the woman who ran into me was extremely indignant with both her and her passenger asking me why I ran into them? A few weeks later my daughter did have an accident and the woman she ran into was very apologetic and didn't know the procedure. Let's face it, who ever thinks they are going to have an accident and have to claim on their car insurance, so unless you are a salesman, someone who works for an insurance company, or a member of the police, there is no reason why you should have the procedure off pat.
It's all in the past now, and it was decided that neither party was to blame, so I got 50% of my excess back. I am extra wary at roundabouts these days, and have reverted to the thinking my driving instructor recommended. You are driving a lethal weapon, and everyone else on the road is not to be trusted. He actually said they were all idiots, and will never do the predictable, so always be aware that other drivers are unpredictable. I had mistakenly thought that the driver who ran into me would take the outer lane of the roundabout, when in fact they drove across it in a straight line with no signals.
I'll never know, but will be wary from now on.

I don't get this
OK...what don't I get?
My house insurance is due at the end of the month, contents and buildings. [I have them both with same company]...as it means that if I have to claim...they can't say it ain't their responsibility.
Anyway...they called me today, and when I spoke to the person I told them I had been given a much lower quote. I realised it was an introductory quote, but I thought my premium had gone up a little more than necessary. Wonder of wonders...after being put on hold for 5+ minutes the advisor offered me a quote of around £50-£60 less than the original quote!
If they could offer me the amount the advisor confirmed...why the inflated quote? Do you only get a reduction if you ask for it?
Who knows?
