Summer Holiday ( first day)

School finished for summer break yesterday.  The teaching staff are in today, for a training day, but I finished yesterday.
We usually finish around half an hour after the pupils have left, but we worked until our normal finishing time.
There were no goodbyes to staff leaving, or congratulations to any staff getting married, even though I know there were two.
So, all in all, term finished with a whimper, not a bang.
And, as if in protest, it's raining today.
I had a lie in and was looking forward to a nice leisurely walk with Shadow, but the rain has changed my plans.  The walk won't be leisurely, as walking in the rain with a dog means getting very wet usually.
That's all for now.....have a lovely day, whatever your plans are.

Driving at night

I don't have a problem with this, but the following link has some very good common sense ideas.
I learnt to drive over the summer months, and was lucky enough never to have to use my wipers or my lights. [British Summers were better then?] However....the first time I drove after passing my test, it was pitch dark and chucking it down. I just took things slower than I was used to doing until I felt comfortable. There is one thing that is not on the list there, and that is...if there is a driver travelling slower than you expect, they have either only just passed their test...or know the road well, and know about possible hazards that you might not be familiar with.
OK...sorry for going on...must check my wipers in the morning, and the washer bottle. Also will get Sam to check my lights are all functioning, and will check hers in return.

Sandcastle competition weekend

I haven't been down to the promenade as yet, but the wind is blowing quite strongly, and it's raining. Not the best weather for being on the beach making sandcastles. The competition is usually on Sunday, but I saw a poster saying that it was extended to encompass Saturday as well. All I can say is ...if it is today as well, at least the sand will be more workable being wet.

British Summer

I could say, summers weren't like this when I was kid, but I'd be lying. It's the simple beauty of a British Summer. One day rain, next, sun...maybe...next blowing a gale...who knows.
There aren't many to equal the summer of 1976.
At least the rain is warm in summer.

There was some real bad news on the news before. There is a case of foot and mouth in Surrey. I really hope it is an isolated case, unfortunately the farmer in question is having to have all his stock slaughtered. My heart goes out to him, and I hope it doesn't turn into an epidemic like it did in 2001. Farmers lose their livelihood, so do connected industries. Animals lose their lives, and the landscape looks strange bereft of it's usual animals.
