Insurance again!

This article caught my eye. It doesn't, however, give one very good tip. mind you seeing as the article is littered by insurance adverts, there's a strong possibility that it might be a sponsored article.
My tip is, before your student child goes to university and lives away from home, by all means make sure that they are covered with insurance for the belongings they take with them. However, what it doesn't say is.....before taking out individual insurance for them, check your own household insurance, as many cover for events like this. Mine does, it gives cover for up to £5,000 worth of belongings in circumstances like this. How do I know this? Because Oliver is in student accommodation, and we checked. I do appreciate not all policies will cover, but as a general rule of thumb, check your household insurance, a good household policy might mean slightly higher premiums, but in the long run could save money, as you won't have to take out several smaller policies, covering individual circumstances.

Strange week

I always expected there just to be two of us left here...and I thought it would be Edwin and myself, but this week the world has been turned upside-down. Oliver returned to Manchester Uni to complete his first year at uni!!!!!!!! Yes! Already! And Edwin returned from France only to go to Scotland a day and a half later. Sam has either been working or with her bf, so it's been pretty much here, all alone. I suppose it is a taste of what is to come. The bloke I'm seeing is working in USA with no way of us contacting each other, so Ive been doing my usual distraction technique....that is bury myself in practical things to do so that I don't have time to feel so lonely.

The messenger bag I posted a picture of now has a home, but I may make others. In fact I did tell Sam I would make her one, and the lining is done, I just need to construct the outer. If you read this regularly, it will not come as a surprise that she wants skull and crossbones lining. The "fish" bags should be finished tomorrow, and I will be posting pictures of them here.

Funny day

Today has been a funny day, funny peculiar, not funny haha.
The youngest is away for a few days, and this morning I ran my daughter to the train station, so that she could catch the train to Manchester, to go to a gig with her other brother. It's Oliver's birthday tomorrow, and it will be the first time I haven't been there on his birthday.
When you become a parent you expect the eldest to leave home first, but I know that doesn't always pan out. He's away at university, which isn't quite the same.
Anyway, with everyone away, I decided I was going to have a tiny bit of a pampering day. Apart from walking the dogs I have had a relaxing day. I even used a facemask..not a usual thing for me to do, as I don't wear make-up I think it was possibly a waste of time. Had a soak in the bath, had a take away and watched Crocodile Dundee II , as it was on TV.
It felt really peculiar, because I never expected to be alone as much as I am ..at my age. Although I have a lovely boyfriend, we spend a lot of time apart, and some days it just feels like I'm going to be alone forever, mind you, that is greatly preferable to where I was 10 years ago.
I'm sure things will work out...eventually.

Yesterday

Didn't get chance to write yesterday.
My middle one, Oliver, got his A level results. He got 3 As in Chemistry, Maths and Physics and a D in general studies. So he has his place at Manchester University to study for his Masters in Physics, and in a round a month he'll be off there.
I did offer to make a special meal to celebrate, but he'd arranged to go out with his friends. Some of them were being "difficult". The group he spent some of the morning with had only done their AS levels, and one of their number likes to be the one "in charge", but hadn't the foggiest what exactly they should do. Typical!!
My daughter went out with friends after work to celebrate Debbie's birthday, a day early. So it was a very quiet evening.
